RARE French Handgun with Holster!
Here we present a M.A.B. Model D Semi-Automatic Pistol, made circa 1941 in Bayonne, France. Léon Barthe was trained in arms manufacture in Liege and then St. Etienne before opening his own shop. In 1920 he started his Manufacture D’Armes Automatique de Bayonne (MAB). His Model D semi-automatic pistol was his second-most prolific gun from the mid-1930s and through WWII. The French navy ordered 16,000 of these in 1939, and the German Wermacht adopted them as well after France’s defeat and occupation from 1940 until the end of the war.
The left side of the slide is marked “PISTOLET AUTOMATIQUE CAL 7.65/MAB BREVETE MODELE D”. It bears Third Reich acceptance marks of Eagle “WaA251”. Comes in a brown leather military holster in good shape.
The overall condition is very good. The steel surfaces have been reblued with care for the markings. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is clear and bright. The walnut grips are in good condition. Magazine has a couple witness holes that have been widened. The action on this pistol is excellent.
This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
Barrel is 4 inches.
