Standard, very early configuration Bergmann 1896, No. 3, single action blowback, bolt never cut for an extractor, as the pistols were made to simply blow out the newly developed rimless, grooveless 6.5mm cartridge. This example, made just after the short run of pistols with octagonal chamber, has a 4.5” screw-in barrel fitted with the early fixed front sight. Notched rear sight. Crown/C/U proofs on left side of barrel and chamber. Patent markings on left side of frame that has the early pattern thin grip. Sideplate with miner logo. Full SN on right side of frame. Fitted with uniformly checkered grips and fixed lanyard loop.
Synopsis:
Scarce, charismatic, Bergmann, 1896, No 3, 6.5mm, serial number 479. This is an extremely early 1896, made to shoot the rimless, grooveless cartridge. Bolt with no extractor, narrow grip.
Condition:
VG+ sharp edge wear, thinning of front and backstrap as carefully pictured. Comparable condition strawed and fired blued parts showing no suggestion of enhancement. Oil darkened grips with blunted checkering. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. One of the earliest, classic, semiautomatic pistol from the late 19th century.
