Here Ancestry Guns presents a High Standard “Model H-B” Semi-Automatic Pistol, made circa 1940 in New Haven, Connecticut. The “H” stands for “hammer” because it has an external hammer as opposed to the internal hammer or striker found in most other High Standards. The High Standard Mfg. Co. was officially founded in 1926 and in 1932 it moved to a bigger plant in Hamden, Conn., where production began. The Model H-B is a .22 long rifle, semi-automatic that makes for great afternoon of target shooting, or just plinking at some old tin cans. The pistol features a blued 6-3/4 inch barrel, frame, and action with brown plastic checkered grips.

High Standard’s production over the years has been vast and has a reputation for both reliability and accuracy. Over time, it mainly produced handguns, including plinkers, target guns, long and short barrels, as well as serious competition pieces. If you’ve ever heard the term “space gun”, odds are good that they were talking about High Standard.

The overall condition is fine. Original finishes are preserved. Excellent action. Bright, shiny bore with strong rifling. Markings are sharp. Both grips contain defined checkering and remains solid.
