1993-94 Vintage Mitchell High Standard Citation II .22LR Pistol
SOLD
Description:
This is a very nice early-production Mitchell Arms "High Standard" Citation II Model semi-automatic .22 target pistol in stainless steel. This example was made in 1993 or early 1994, as the High Standard nomenclature was dropped in 1994 due to litigation. This Citation II features full stainless steel construction, a quick-release 7.25" inch fluted bull barrel that is factory drilled and tapped for optics and barrel weights, a target-style recessed and crowned muzzle with provisions for compensator attachment, a travel and weight-adjustable target trigger, stipled front and rear grip straps, push-button take-down, and hand-cut checkered Walnut target grips with a thumb shelf (right-handed). These pistols were designed to be fully loaded competition target pistols that were extremely accurate out of the box, just like the original Hi Standard pistols. This particular pistol has had the rear bridge-style sight removed for optics use, and comes with a Weaver-style base and silver Weaver medium height 1" inch rings already mounted on it. The original factory rear sight has been lost as some point over the last 25 plus years, so if the new owner wants to use iron sights he or she will need to find a replacement or have one made. Luckily these guns are fully interchangeable with original Hamden-manufactured Hi Standard parts so finding a sight will be possible. As you can see from the pictures, this is a very handsome .22 pistol and it is in very good condition overall. The stainless steel shows some minor handling and storage marks but no major blemishes, marring, or wear. The factory stipling on the grip straps is still nice and crisp as well, providing a very positive grip. The bore in this pistol is excellent, showing nice sharp rifling and no pitting, erosion, or imperfections whatsoever. The original factory grips on this Mitchell Citation II are in excellent like-new condition. Both sides are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or visible wear. They are nicely fit to the gun and snug to the frame on either side with no wiggle. All of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order, and the slide to frame fit is superb. When worked by hand the action is smooth and precise, and has plenty of spring pressure to go into battery properly. The trigger on this pistol is outstanding. It breaks like a thin glass rod with a very light pull and no excessive travel at it's current settings. The travel adjustment is mounted in the trigger itself, while the pull weight is adjusted with an allen screw recessed into the rear of the frame. Both the frame-mounted safety on the left side and the slide-stop lever on the right side work like new. This Citation II uses a 10-shot single stack detachable magazine with a toe release, and the original magazine in this pistol is in excellent condition with a stout follower spring. There is a button on the right side to both aid in loading it, and activate the slide stop lever after the last round. If you have been looking for a neat new .22 rimfire target pistol for your collection this early-production Mitchell Arms Citation II would be a great choice.
