HIGH STANDARD Model H-D “MILITARY” .22 LR Semi-Auto Pistol C&R w/HOLSTER With a Reputation for RELIABILITY and ACCURACY
Description: HIGH STANDARD Model H-D “MILITARY” .22 LR Semi-Auto Pistol C&R w/HOLSTER With a Reputation for RELIABILITY and ACCURACY Here Ancestry Guns presents a High Standard Model H-D “Military” Semi-Automatic Pistol and Holster, made in New Haven, Connecticut. This model H-D Military was made in 1946. The “H” stands for “hammer” because it has an external hammer as opposed to the internal hammer or striker found in most other High Standards. During WWII, the U.S. armed forces bought several thousand Model Bs and H-Ds to use for training, which is why Hi Standard later added the word “Military” to the model name. During the World War II era, the OSS, which was the precursor to the CIA, purchased 2600 Model H-Ds with integrally suppressed barrels. Over the following decades, these guns were shared among different government organizations for various clandestine activities. One suppressed Hi Standard was famously found in the cockpit of the U2 spy plane that was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960. As late as the year 2000, the Marines 1st Force Recon Company still had at least 10 of the suppressed Hi Standards sitting in their armory. The High Standard Mfg. Co. was officially founded in 1926 and in 1932 it moved to a bigger plant in Hamden, Conn., where production began. The pistol features a blued 6-3/4 inch barrel, frame, and action with brown hardwood checkered grips. High Standard’s production over the years has been vast and has a reputation for both reliability and accuracy. Over time, it mainly produced handguns, including plinkers, target guns, long and short barrels, as well as serious competition pieces. If you’ve ever heard the term “space gun”, odds are good that they were talking about High Standard. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish is preserved, with some holster wear on the left frame. Excellent action. The bore is shiny bright with strong rifling. Both grips are crisply checkering with the left grip missing a chip near the toe. Markings are sharp. Good leather holster. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 6-3/4 inches. Caliber: .22 LR Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R Licensee.
