High Standard Victor .22 long rifle caliber semi-automatic SH series model 9217 COMPETITION target pistol
Description: High Standard Victor .22 long rifle caliber semi-automatic, SH series, model 9217 top of the line, COMPETITION target pistol, 5.50 inch slab-sided barrel, blue finish, trigger, manual safety and magazine release are all gold platted, includes weaver base and Aimpoint electronic Mark III red dot sight mounted on the barrel, factory applied stippling to the front and rear grip straps to improve grip on the gun, factory checkered walnut military style grips, target trigger is adjustable for trigger pull and includes a trigger stop, allen screw barrel take down for disassembly, includes 2 magazines. The first Victor with the "SH" serial number prefix was shipped from the factory on May 22, 1981. This SH series was only made for 3 years (May 1981 - October 1984). A total of 24,034 guns were produced (SN SH10001 - SH34034). This gun SN = SH28507. This gun was made in the East Hartford, CT plant in 1983. The SH series was the final series of High Standard pistols and can be differentiated from the 107 series by the new allen screw barrel release that replaced the push button takedown. 1983 production starting serial number = SH25965 and ending serial number = SH31558 High Standard Victor pistols have been used to compete in local club matches through the annual National Pistol Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. The High Standard Victor is known as the one of the finest shooting semi-automatics in the world, and is the standard for .22 caliber competitive guns. This is a one owner gun. I purchased the gun new in 1983 and immediately sent it to a well known gunsmith in Columbus, Georgia, Jackie Best, to be accurized for NRA Precision Pistol competition (formerly know as NRA Conventional Pistol). Jackie Best also removed the raised aluminum ventilated rib, the factory barrel weight at the muzzle end, the front sight and the adjustable rear sight and installed a permanent rail (weaver base) on the top of the barrel. All of those original factory parts are included with the price of the gun. Jackie completed the work on the gun in December 1983. An Aimpoint electronic Mark III red dot sight is mounted to the rail and is included in the price of the gun. Red dot sights available from other manufacturers can easily be mounted to the same rail. Comes with 2 magazines. I competed in numerous state pistol championships, All Army Pistol Championships at Ft Benning, GA, and the National Pistol Matches at Camp Perry, OH using this gun for the .22 caliber 900 portion of the three gun 2700, one-handed, standing, NRA bulls eye matches. The last time I fired this gun was June 5, 1994. The gun has been in storage for the last 28 years. Competition guns like this one are not listed for sale very often. Here are some comments from others on Jackie Best, the gunsmith: Re: jackie best gunsmith info by jglenn21 2/1/2020, 9:03 am Jackie was one of the most talented AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit at Ft Benning, GA) smiths of his era. He made excellent 1911s that would flat shoot. I had the pleasure of knowing him while he was in GA. He ended up in Al. Like most smiths in the 60s,70s and 80s.he would build on what you brought him.. Heck of a shot too, although he didn't shoot much outside of Perry when I knew him.. if the pistol is in good shape you'll enjoy it. Owned one in the late 70s. Let it go like an idiot..... Post by john bickar » Tue May 11, 2010 11:31 pm BEST GUNS SHOOT Jackie (Best) was a good friend of my father's and built guns for my father, my uncle, and many of my father's friends. In 1991, he built the wad gun that I still shoot. I shot it as he built it for ~15 years before it needed to be rebuilt last year after a long life of admirable service. Among other things, I broke 2600 for the first time with that gun and still have my current Personal Best in CF/.45 and a 2700 with it. I bought another Best wad gun off of a couple of years ago just because I could. #5 · Nov 7, 2015 Hey, Y'all, I just wanted to chime in about the inquire into Jack Best, the pistolsmith. Jackie was a friend of mine and he taught me as much as my brain could hold on accurizing and shooting a 1911. He truly was one of the Best. I was at stationed at Ft. Benning, and I was a competitive shooter with all guns, but I shot mostly for AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit) as a 3 gun shooter. Jackie took me under his wing and showed me how to make a hardball gun shoot a group that, to me, seemed impossible. There were/are some of the best gunsmiths in the world at AMU, and I had the privilege of serving with them from '75 to '81. If you have one of Jackie's builds, consider yourself a lucky individual. I'm Tommy Loomis. by SW-52 4/1/2020, 8:27 am Information describe Jackie Best was a High level Gunsmith in early days and was AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit) armorer. His builds are very tight and very rare to see one on sale. ************************************** The original box for the gun is not available. All original papers for the gun are included. All Aimpoint original papers and accessories are included. A second used Tasco Pro Point red dot sight (Model # PDP1) is available for sale from the seller. Contact the seller for details. A second set of custom made target grips is included in the price. Checkered walnut target grips with right hand thumb rest made by Herrett's Stocks of Twin Falls, Idaho in 1985. The Herrett grips are installed on the gun in the pictures. The factory checkered walnut military style grips are included in the price and are shown next to the gun in one of the photos. When I shot this gun, I used the Herrett grip with the right hand thumb rest on the left side of the gun and the factory grip on the right side. This combination was the most comfortable grip for me. Overall condition is excellent plus. The left side Herrett grip has 3 small nicks on the bottom near the butt (see photos). Additional photos of the gun and accessories are available. Contact the seller by email for additional photos. I have reinstalled the factory barrel weight at the muzzle end for these photos (using 2 factory allen head screws), however, when I was shooting this gun in competition, I removed this weight at the recommendation of my gunsmith.
