This Ithaca Gun Company 45ACP U.S. Model 1911 A1 was shipped on November 30, 1943, in a lot of 1,000 as part of the 2nd contract to the Augusta Ordnance Depot, Augusta, GA. It appears to have original parts throughout. The High Standard barrel (the normal barrel for Ithacas) has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The pistol has the expected Ithaca factory and inspection marks including the FJA (Frank J. Atwood, Colonel) final inspection on the left side of the frame and the ordanace ""crossed cannon"" on the right rear of the frame. The left side of the frame is marked AA which signifies that this pistol was inspected at the Augusta Arsenal, probably shortly after WWII. It appears that the only thing that was done to this gun was that it was possibly reparkerized at that time. It has the correct later style grooved mainspring housing, safety lock, and slide stop. The gun retains approx. 98% of its parkerized finish. The brown checkered plastic grips are excellent. The WWII S marked (Scovill Mfg. Co., Waterbury, CT) magazine is fine. The action functions correctly. This is a fine example the desiravle Ithace Model 1911 A1 that was used in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
