Description:
This Ithace 1911 45 Cal was carried by a first Sargent tank commander who participated in 3 first wave assaults on three different islands in the pacific who was a friend of mine. A tank commander usually controls his own tank but also 3 to 4 tanks as a platoon At one point he after the war he was a teacher and instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy firing range, giving the new plebes a demionation of the use and performance of shooting a 45 Cal 1911. That being said u will see that he had a different set of grips put on the pistol to enhance the holding and shooting of said weapon. I'm not sure but I beleive he had the trigger worked on, because it has a very sweet smooth trigger pull for a military 1911. I belived he did so because he enjoyed going to the range to shoot for many many years, he was a outstanding pistol shot . Also included is a vintage shoulder holster as shown
A quick glance at the small "Clawson 1911/1911A1 book", places the serial number in the 2nd contract order (#1208674-1279673)... shipped from Nov. 5, 1943 through April 18, 1944.
I believe the serial numbers are on microfilm but unfortunately, they are not in sequential order.
The total number of guns shipped in this 2nd contract was 70,917 !
