~1920/1920 Double Date P.08 Police Luger 9mm – Rarest of the 1920 Double Dated Luger's
Description: ~ 1920/1920 Double Date P.08 Police Luger 9mm – Rarest of the 1920 Double Dated Luger's Description: This is a beautiful example of the Model 1920 Manufactured Pistole-08 Military & Police. The chamber marking represents the military contract year of production, and this example is a 1920 dated Luger in 9mm Parabellum. Most Double Dated Luger's are 1920 or 1921 over 1910 through 1918, A very few examples exist which are dated 1920/1920, this is one of those rare variants. The DWM monogram is on the toggle link with the extractor marked 'Geladen' (Loaded). This example has all matching serial numbers, 9617, no suffix, except for the police sear safety side plate which bears 05. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert", when exposed (safety down) it is in the safe position. This Luger has the shortened sear, enabling the gun to be cocked with the safety engaged, a feature that was adopted in 1916. The barrel is 4" (100mm) and has deep lands and grooves with a bright, clean bore. The rear sight is "V" cut fixed with a front dovetailed sight. The frame has the stock lug. Serial number is displayed on the left side of the receiver, the locking bolt, the sear bar safety, the extractor, the forward toggle link, the front of the frame, under the barrel, and on the side of the trigger. Original grips are finely cut diamond shaped checkering made from walnut. The Luger has both the sear safety and a magazine safety which has been deactivated, as were installed on the police guns in 1929-34. The magazine safety was soon abandoned and removed, and to find one complete on a Luger is rare. Magazine Safety: The magazine safety consists of a "U" shaped leaf spring with two extensions, fitted into the left side of the frame under the grip with a hole drilled into the frame. One of the extensions fits into the front and lodges behind the trigger, while the other end fits through the frame into the magazine well. (The tip has been deactivated, leaving the clip present.) With the magazine in place, the extension is pushed left and out of the path of the trigger. Removing the magazine allows the safety to move to the right so the bar moved behind the trigger and prevents it from being pulled. This was patented by Carl Walther in October 1932. Sear Safety: During the 1920s it was determined that one could remove the side plate on a loaded Luger, exposing the sear, and by pressing on the sear, discharge the firearm. The Sear Safety consists of a spring bar installed on the left side of the receiver, above the sear bar lever. This bar required a modified side plate be installed. This piece has a police holster with a magazine pouch. The leather remains supple without damage. Two original police magazines, one scrubbed, numbered to the piece, stamped “1”, the second bearing another serial number, stamped “2”. Mechanically in perfect working order. S.M. 229. - Prussian Police (Schutzpolizei) Unit Marks - Muenster district – Number 229 “The Weimar Era Lugers dated 1920 and 1921 are of new manufacture and were not reworked from surplus Imperial Lugers. During 1920 and 1921 DWM was the only company manufacturing Lugers in Germany.” ~Jan Still (RIP) Curio/Relic: Yes Handgun Caliber: .9 MM Manufacturer: DWM Model: P.08 Serial Number: 9617 Condition: 95% Metal Condition: 96% Wood Condition: 96% Bore Condition: 98% Stock: Walnut original Finish: blue Manufacture Date: 1920 Extras: #1&2 Police Magazines and Holster Price: $2,950.00 Since 1985 Proprietors in Classic Arms & Fine Restorations - Mob Guns Inc ~ Art Deco Steel ~ Visit us online at MobGuns to view our Restorations, Options, Inventory and Terms of Sale.
