German/NAZI EARLY PRE- WWII 1936 DATE, S/42 CODE MAUSER-WERKE, OBERNDORF P.08 LUGER!
Description: This untouched ORIGINAL, ALL MATCHING (non-matching magazines) Nazi Pre-WWII 1936, S/42 Luger Pistol SN 4,---L. This is complete WWII ‘’VET’’ Capture Bring Back RIG/SET. It's been a very long time since we've had any example of this 1936 date/variation. It's a great collector opportunity, as we rarely have this early variation to offer! Also, it is offered exactly ‘’As Captured’’ and a full complete rig with everything being totally untouched exactly as brought back by the WWII ‘’Vet’’ at the end of WWII. The bore shows a bit of actual and understandable combat neglect, with the only weak part of the entire pistol being a ring inside the center of the bore. Other than this, the remainder of the bore is exceptional for any Nazi WWII Era firearm, due to the highly corrosive ammo used during WWII era. For a Collection or display this early 1936 Date S/42 variation is simply as good as it gets! Book Reference: Please refer to the fine book ‘’AXIS PISTOLS’’ by Jan C. Still, page 8 for the table/graph on variations and serial numbers. With everything here before us it is as follows: The Pistol itself is original and matching (other than the mags, which are the highly desirable WWII extruded mags). This outstanding and most Historic early 1936 dated P.08 Luger Pistol is 100% original thru-out exactly as Captured and Brought back over 78 years ago! Finish & %: The untouched and 100% original superb, deep, rich, satin 1936 Mauser-Werke ‘’rust blued’’ finish other than expected minor Holster wear and its grip straps that simply show minor age/patina rates overall at appx 95% to 98%. No collector has touched this historic Luger or messed with it, period! Best of all it is simply magnificent in the typical upper/top ‘’Display Area’’ that would show the upper toggle, receiver top, upper barrel, that shows the ‘’1936’’ Date, ‘’S/42’’ manufacturer, etc. rates easily at 99%! Also, again this being an early 1936 date it still has the early, time consuming, deep, rich, satin Mauser-Werke, Oberndorf 1936 Factory ‘’Rust Blued’’ metal finish and even more remarkable even the very fragile un-touched ORIGINAL ‘’strawed’’ parts: trigger, take down lever, safety (typically thinning a bit from thumb), magazine release and ejector still rate superb! PLEASE NOTE: These ‘’strawed color parts’’ are absolutely 100% original. Proofs/Markings: All are absolutely perfect thru out with the 2 early 1936 ‘’DROOP WINGED EAGLE over 63’’ Proofs and single ‘’DROOPED WING EAGLE’’ Proofing on the right front receiver! On the top front receiver, chamber area is the ‘’1936’’ date and on the top center toggle the ‘’S/42’’ coding for Mauser-Werke, Oberndorf! Being an All-Matching example, of course all parts typically and correctly have either the full ‘’6---‘’ SN or the last 2 digits of the SN on them. All stampings and markings are exceptionally deep, sharp, crisp and remain ‘’as Mauser 1936 Factory NEW! Bore: This is the only weak part of the entire pistol as it has a ring inside the center of the bore. Other than this, the remainder of the bore is exceptional for any Nazi WWII Era firearm, due to the highly corrosive ammo used during WWII era. Typically, the bore shows a bit of actual and understandable combat neglect. However, judging by the high % of remaining blue on the bolt face and only minor rear frame toggle recoil marks the pistol no doubt was fired very little. Action/Mechanically: In these areas it rates as virtually perfect! Nothing equals the smoothness, quality, and workmanship of the famed ‘’German Luger’’, especially these very early pre-WWII Lugers where the craftsmen at Mausers Factory were not rushed and quality was main goal! Add to this, the low production rate of this variation/manufacture you have quite a rather hard to find variation! Grips: Even these Factory Original 1936 Mauser checkered walnut grips are absolutely beautiful, remarkably rating MINTY and untouched with perfect tight fit and even more remarkable have none of the usual cracks or chips on the left rear upper grip by the safety lever that is so common on Lugers with walnut grips. Even the 2 grip screws have perfect slots, simply showing expected aging and patina/wear (on the left one) and virtually no wear on their high portions. Superb, un-equaled grips and screws! Holster: Though of later manufacture date, the Holster is perfectly marked ‘’cey/42, Nazi Eagle/ Swastika over WaA820’’ and again, this is the exact holster this Pistol was carried in by the Nazi soldier and exactly as it was brought back in. It is black in color, still perfectly formed and perfect in its very supple leather that includes both rear belt loops, take down tool pouch and even the front flap strap! The Holster basically rates excellent overall! Quite common on many ‘’Vet’’ Capture/Bring Back holsters, it has 2 small holes where the ‘’Vet’’ or Nazi soldier put a Nazi insignia, badge, or medal on the outer flap. This is simply a part of its WWII era History. Magazines (2): As stated even though the magazines do not match in SN’s both are the highly sought, more reliable, durable ‘’extruded’’ metal body and aluminum base variations! These magazines were highly prized by the Nazi soldiers and anyone who was armed with the Luger pistol as they were much more rugged, durable, and reliable than the more common thin tin stamped ones. The magazine in the pistol is ‘’122’’ coded with Nazi Eagle/37’’ Proofs on its lower side and rates Excellent+! The spare magazine has no visible markings on its base, is marked and Proofed ‘’P.08, fxo and coded with Nazi Eagle/37’’ on its body showing wear and use but still a usable spare. Luger Take Down Tool: This is still in the holsters inner pouch and it is 100% original rating Excellent+, but does not appear (?) proofed. History/Use: With Hitler’s Nazi re-armament beginning in secret in the 1934 (K dated Code), 1935 (G date Code) were code dated with the actual Year of Dating begin in 1936 showing the actual date of manufacture on the receiver chamber area. This variation with its ‘’1936’’ date is the very 1st year of the actual year date markings, still having the ‘’S/42’’ Mauser-Werke, Oberndorf coding and still has the very early ‘’DROOP EAGLE’’ Proofs. This Pistol being of such an early manufacture is the variation that saw virtually all of the Pre-WWII and WWII History (1936-1945) happen and remarkably it has remained totally untouched all these 87 years and exactly as it and this entire ‘’Rig/Set’’ was Captured during WWII and brought back by the returning WWII ‘’Vet’’ in 1945! Of the very low number manufactured in 1936 and long hard-fought War years most all of this variation were either ‘’used up’’ during War service they endured or lost in places such as the Russian front where most of all the early weapons went with the large manpower drain the ‘‘Barbarossa’’ campaign took and which never seemed to end! A truly great piece of actual Pre-WWII and WWII History and (as stated above) the pistol would Display superbly!
