German P.08 Luger by DWM Reichswehr and Police Marked Double-Date
Description: Serial #4867a, 9mm Para., 4 inch barrel with a fine, bright bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is a seldom seen, 1920/1921 dated pistol, made for the police and having both the sear safety and has some of the original magazine safety components as well (the "1920" in this instance is a Reichswehr acceptance marking). The pistol has matching numbers on all of the component parts, except for the firing pin, which is unnumbered. The metal retains 90-92% of an armory reapplied blue finish with mild silvering at the muzzle, along the high edges and projections, as well as patches of thin pinprick pitting throughout. All markings are still visible, including the "S (in circle)" police mark on the left side of the receiver, and the "Ma.544" ammunition plant and rack number marking on the frontstrap (no location given). The rack number is repeated on the rear of the frame just above the lanyard loop. The smaller parts retain traces of the original straw color, with the balance turned mottled gray. The checkered wooden grips are numbered to a different gun on the interior and have minor handling marks and flattening of the points on either side, as well as a small repaired crack at the top rear of the left panel. A single matching "fxo" magazine is included. This is a very nice example of a pre-war police Luger, accepted into military service to arm munitions plant guards, and would make a great addition to any collection.
