Action:Semi-automatic, mechanically solid, fed by detachable box magazines, serrated thumb safety marked with GESICHERT, late toggle,  checkered magazine release - take-down lever, checkered cocking knobs, butt stock mounting lug and loop on back of the frame, light speckling and handling marks
Grips:Checkered walnut with small chip at the front top edge of the left panel, otherwise in very nice condition
Accessories:One 8 round detachable magazine with wood end cap, not matching number
Condition:This is a very nice example of a used Mauser Luger P.08 model handgun with 4" barrel and matching numbers.  Being manufactured in 1938, this pistol would have been used in WWII as the main German handgun for officers and NCOs.  1938 was a pre-war peak year for Luger quality: excellent fit/finish and craftsmanship.

Additional Information - Background:

• By 1930, Mauser-Werke A.G. in Oberndorf acquired the production rights and tooling for the Luger from DWM.
• Production resumed for the German military, leading up to World War II.
• The standard military issue became the Pistole 08 (P.08), the 4" barrel variant of the Luger.

1938 Production:

• In 1938, Mauser produced P.08 Lugers with military acceptance for the Wehrmacht.
• This pistol features military proof marks  e/63 & e/83, along with the other stamps.
• Also marked with the "S/42" code (Mauser's wartime manufacturer code until mid-1939)

Role in WWII:

• These Lugers were issued to German Army officers and NCOs, and used extensively throughout World War II.
• Though later largely replaced by the Walther P.38, the Luger remained in service due to its iconic status and accuracy.

Wars Used In

• World War II (1939–1945): Standard German sidearm in early war years.
• Also saw limited post-war use in captured stocks and Eastern Bloc countries.
