Royal Portuguese Army Contract Luger Pistol, DWM manufacturer, Model 1906, .30 Cal and Holster

Description:

Royal Portuguese Army Contract Luger Pistol with original magazine and standard pattern leather holster correct for the M2 pistol.
Portugal purchased 5,000 Lugers from the German arms manufacturer Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM), Berlin Germany, with the first delivery arriving in 1908.  These Royal Portuguese Army pistols came with a distinguishable Crown/M2 emblem on the chamber, and replaced the then regulation sidearm, the Abadie revolver.  The Crown/M2 emblem represented King Manuel II, who ended up being their last monarch of Portugal. His brief reign, from 1908 to 1910 began after the assassination of his father, King Carlos I and his elder brother, Luis Filipe.  On October 5, 1910, the monarchy was overthrown, the king exiled and the Republic of Portugal installed.  
The circled triangle, which is the Portuguese military acceptance proof, is stamped on all appropriate parts.
The holster is black and it has the correct markings “AE” on the inside. Takedown tool flap is not attached at one end, otherwise intact and in good condition.  Brass stud flap closures.

The bore is bright and sharp. The walnut checkered grips are in good condition, and the pistol has a grip safety.

Serial number 2811.  1 of 5,000 DWM pistols with Crown/M2 emblem.
