Scarce DWM M1906 ROYAL PORTUGUESE Contract Semi-Auto “M2” LUGER Pistol C&R
Made in FINAL DAYS of the PORTUGUESE MONARCHY
Description: Scarce DWM M1906 ROYAL PORTUGUESE Contract Semi-Auto “M2” LUGER Pistol C&R Made in FINAL DAYS of the PORTUGUESE MONARCHY Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R DWM Royal Portuguese Contract Model 1906 “M2” Semi-Automatic Luger Pistol, made circa 1908-1910 by DWM (Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken) in Berlin, Germany. While DWM was filling this order, a revolution occurred in Portugal, and the Monarchy was replaced by a Republic. This example was manufactured during the final days of the Portuguese monarchy, between 1908 (the ascension of King Manuel II) and 1910 (the deposition of Manuel II and the establishment of the Republic of Portugal). Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. In 1900 the United States ordered 1,000 Lugers in 7.65x21mm Parabellum, or .30 Luger, for infantry and cavalry trials. It received pushback from soldiers that said the caliber was too small and the firearm itself was unreliable. Which, in turn, led to DMW developing the 9mm caliber version of the Luger shortly thereafter. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. This semi-auto has fixed sights, with the “crown/M2” royal cipher on the chamber, “circled triangle” army acceptance marks on the extension, barrel, frame and magazine base, and a “DWM” front toggle link. The extractor is marked “CARREGADA”. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Strong action. The bore is shiny bright with crisp rifling. Very good, checkered grips. Markings are sharp. Visible numbers match. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 4-3/4 inches. Caliber: 7.65mm Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
