Two Consecutively Numbered Portuguese Contract Mauser Banner GNR Lugers
Two "Consecutively Numbered" Portuguese Contract Mauser Banner GNR Lugers Model 1935/06
Serial Numbers 2187 and 2188
In 1935, Portugal placed a contract order to Germany for special marked luger pistols for their Gurdia Nacional Republica (GNR). 564 Mauser banner pistols were ordered and after 95 or so years, two of these lugers have been reunited back together. The pistols had a 1906 grip safety and an intertwined GNR above the chamber, cal 7.65 m/m, and safety lever labeled “seguranca”. This contract order produced 564 lugers, a number referenced most likely from the diary/notebook kept by August Weiss. The pistols have the Obendorf crown over “U” proof marking, which was typical for these German Mauser lugers.
The overall conditions are very good as shown in the photos.
The bores are bright and sharp. The walnut checkered grips are in good condition, and the pistols have grip safety's. One luger (2187) has the correct unnumbered magazine and one luger (2188) has a numbered magazine 927.
