WW1 Vintage 1916 DWM Artillery Model Luger in 9mm Luger
** Very Nice Looking Original Finish Example **
Description: If you have been looking for an affordable yet good looking Artillery Luger from the First World War, this DWM 1916 date example would be an excellent choice. It retains it's original finishes and is all-matching except for the magazine and grips, which are original replacements. The Artillery Luger is one of the most recognizable weapons from World War 1 and is sought-after by collectors and shooters alike today. Artillery Lugers were issued mainly to German artillery gun crews and heavy machine gun personnel that were not typically issued the full-size Gewehr 98 rifle. These Artillery Lugers were issed with a combined holster and wooden stock rig that could be attached to the gun for more offensive firepower and better accuracy at trench warfare distances. The 8" inch barrel and elevation-adjustable rear sight made it possible to fire with reasonable accuracy out to 800 meters, and the Germans also came up with a 32 round "snail drum" magazine for the Artillery Luger to give it a lot of firepower. The uniqueness of the weapon made them the ultimate prize for American soldiers on the hunt for a war trophy to take back home, and most of the original weapons on the market today were G.I. bring-backs. This particular example is a 1916-dated Artillery Luger made by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken, known as "DWM". As mentioned earlier it is an all-original gun that is all numbers-matching except for the grips and magazine, which are original pieces but not serial-numbered to the gun. The original factory blue finish is beautiful on this Luger, but has patches of what appears to be blood-pitting. You can see these areas in the close-up pictures provided; note the defined borders and the finish in excellent condition around the affected areas, typical of damage caused by blood or a caustic liquid. It is highly likely that this Luger was captured from a KIA German or wounded soldier that surrendered. In spite of these areas, this DWM Artillery Luger is a great looking weapon that has a honest combat-used look to it. The bore in this Luger is excellent, bright and clean with no pitting, erosion, or visible imperfections. The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel The grips on this Artillery are nicely matched and free from any cracks or repairs. The left side grip is missing a small piece just below the safety lever in the typical spot that they often break when someone carelessly removes it. All of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order including the adjustable rear sight, and the toggle-action is slick and locks into battery perfectly. We have no doubt that this DWM would shoot just as reliably and accurately today as the day it left the factory 103 years ago. This Artillery Luger comes with one original WW1 wood-bottom magazine in good working condition that is numbered "7 b". All in all, this DWM Artillery Luger would be perfect for someone who wants an original gun that has seen combat, and can be enjoyed as both a shooter and investment.
