Early German C96 Mauser Broomhandle Pistol with rare early Cone hammer and matching wooden holster/stock. Serial number is in the 12,100 range which dates its production to 1897 and one of the few out there that is Antique under Federal Law. Standard 5.5" Barrel in Caliber 7.63 with early correct 50 to 500 Meter Graduated Rear Sight. Center square in the milled lightening cuts at the rear of frame are also correct and were sometimes found with inscriptions. These were quite popular in Great Britain and Winston Churchill is believed to have purchased 3-4 of these early C96's during the Sudan and Boer War era. Overall this one rates to NRA Antique Excellent with what appears to be 99.5% of an excellent and very old restored blue finish....perhaps even dipped over the original finish because this gun show very little wear. Markings and edges are crisp with fire blue on the bolt catch. safety and extractor. All the milling marks on the side of the frame are still showing down in the relief cuts. Grips still appear to retain most of their original factory varnish with sharp lines. No cracks or chips. Lanyard Loop is intact. Top of barrel/frame is marked WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF^N. 100% Matching numbers on the frame, barrel/slide assembly, hammer, rear sight, stock, bolt stop, grips, floor plate, cartridge follower, firing pin retainer, firing pin, hammer assembly, sub-assembly, locking lug, trigger assembly, safety. Excellent mechanics and bore. Shoulder stock is in nice shape with the exception of a small hairline crack which can easily be fixed which we can have done upon request. If you'e looking for a Great early Mauser C96 with an antique serial number, this is a fantastic example.
