Fischer Waffenampt stamped holster and 2 magazines all matching #'s 7539 Background and general condition of pistol • The 1939 commercial Mauser (Banner marked) was a contract of 850 Lugers built for the SS division. • The distinguishing characteristics of this production run was the Crown U (Oberndorf factory proof) and the swastika eagle K identify this as an SS production pistol. • Everything about this gun indicates it was an officer’s gun. • The only wear on this Luger is where it was carried in the holster as most all officers’ pistols show the same wear pattern. • The grips and all other parts of the gun look to be in very good condition showing little or no wear. • Finding an original pistol with matching magazine is rare……with 2 matching magazines and a proof marked take down tool indicates the gun was not used on the battlefield but rather carried on the hip of an SS officer. • Includes a reproduction of the original service and operations manual for the pistol. Background and condition of holster • The A. Fischer 1939 holster is Waffenampt stamped and upon closer inspection the name GLASS is written in ink as was the custom amongst German officers. • Original proof marked Take-Down Tool in holster • In researching the records for SS officers issued this limited production the only SS officer named Glass was Fridolin Glass. • Fridolin Glass was the head of the Nazi Party in Austria and leader of the unsuccessful July Putsch an attempt to overthrow the Austrian Government (further details on his career below). Fridolin Glass (Glaß) Summary History • Born 14 December 1910 in Lemberg – died 21 February 1943 in the Soviet Union • He was an Austrian Nazi activist & Schutzstaffel (SS) officer. • Glass came to prominence in 1934 when he became the effective leader of the July Putsch coup d'état attempt • Ranks held in SS by Glass: o SS Sturmbannführer Fridolin Glass o SS Untersturmführer Fridolin Glass o Gaupropagandaredner & Kreisleiter Fridolin Glass o SS Oberführer Fridolin Glass • Glass became member of the Nazi Party in 1931, with the membership number 440?452. • In 1933, under direct orders of Adolf Hitler, Austrian Nazis had established the ‘SS Standarte 89’. This was a group of highly organized shock troops designed to create chaos on the streets of Austria. • Glass enjoyed a close relationship with Heinrich Himmler, who was keen to establish a strong SS presence in Austria. Glass was chosen to command this new unit and given the rank of Sturmbannführer in the SS. • Following the Anschluss in 1938 Glass became a councillor in Vienna and was appointed Gaupropagandaredner & Kreisleiter. • Transferred to the Waffen-SS, with the rank of Untersturmführer. • Killed in action in February 1943. • Following his death Glass was posthumously promoted to the rank of Oberführer.
