World War II THIRD REICH German MAUSER “42” Code “1940” Dated LUGER PISTOL
ICONIC World War II German Semi-Automatic Sidearm
Description: World War II THIRD REICH German MAUSER “42” Code “1940” Dated LUGER PISTOL ICONIC World War II German Semi-Automatic Sidearm Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Mauser “42” Code “1940” Dated German P.08 Luger, made in 1940 in Obendorf, Germany. Based on Hugo Borchardt’s novel design of a semi-automatic pistol, the “Luger” pistol was designed by Georg Luger, the man tasked with taking an awkward, cumbersome and expensive pistol and making it into one of the world’s most iconic firearms of all time. The Model P.08 was adopted by Germany and was used through both World War I and World War II. In the years between 1934 and early 1941, Mauser used a different designation code on their P.08 pistol. Interestingly, since the terms of the Treaty of Versailles only allowed the German Simson & Company to produce any of the few small arms granted Germany after World War I, arms production was done secretly at Mauser, among others. The slide is marked “42”, which was the code for the Mauser factory. Dates were left off of the frame until about 1936 when Germany’s arms production and military activities started to be brought into the light. Waffenamt codes were the inspection marks used on military equipment by the German Third Reich. One has to ask, what history did this pistol see? Did it invade Russia or possibly overran Europe? Was it on the battlefield at D-Day? Here is a very nice Mauser “42” Code Luger pistol that surely has some stories to tell. The overall condition is fine. Original finish is preserved. Excellent action. The bore is shiny bright with strong rifling. Fine checked grips. Markings are crisp. Visible numbers match (minus the magazine). “1940” dated. Own the original!
