Offered for sale this week is an exceptional example of a very rare pistol. Just over 100 of these were sold on the commercial market. The Marine Corps ordered approximately 800 of them as issue sidearms in 1905 with the remaining 100 sold retail. They were marketed on the Civilian market as the "Marine Corps Model" Double action revolver. Most of these that I have encountered are completely browned out. This one is wearing a lot of the original high polish finish with accenting fire blue small parts. The wood grips are near perfect. The bore is mint. Overall a very attractive 120 year old pistol.
A Colt Factory letter is also included that states this pistol was shipped to William Reed and Sons, Boston, MA on April 16th 1906 in a single gun shipment.
