British Early Pattern Light Dragoon Pistol by Dublin Castle
Description:
NSN, .69 Caliber, 9" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is a handsome pistol that has a mottled gray-brown patina on the barrel with areas of dark freckling and pinprick pitting along its length, heaviest at the muzzle and at the breech around the vent. The lock has a similar patina with slightly more gray present along the beveled edges of the "(Crown) / GR" and ‘DUBLIN / CASTLE" marked lockplate, and some small areas of mild pitting present on the frizzen, edges and inside of the pan, and on the edges of the swan-necked cock. The lock is fully functional and locks at both half and full-cock, although the sear engages a bit softly at full-cock. The early Land Pattern brass fittings have an overall bright yellow-ochre patina with a large Roman numeral "VII" engraved on the rounded sideplate, and some very mild tarnish on the ramrod pipes, acorn finial trigger guard, and lobed butt cap. Faint initials are scratched into the left side of the cap: "ID". The pin-fastened walnut stock is in very good shape, with no cracks, and has minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about the thick, added military oil finish. This is a fine example of a desirable, Revolutionary War era British pistol made by a highly desirable maker. Antique;
