French Model 1805 Cavalry Pistol (An XIII)
Description: NSN, .70 Caliber, 7 7/8" barrel with a good, lightly freckled bore. This is a sturdy and good looking pistol, still in the original flint, with the metal having been lightly cleaned at some point. The steel has since reacquired a mottled gray patina, and there is some pinprick pitting near the muzzle, as well as at the breech around the touchhole. The barrel has an 1812 date on the left breech flat, and the lock has crisp St. Etienne markings. The brass fittings were also cleaned in the past, but have begun to repatinate, and have a mixed bright and muted yellow-ochre patina. The walnut stock is also dated 1812 on the right side of the grip, and exhibits numerous small handling marks and minor surface blemishes, but no cracks or chips. The original ramrod is included, and the lock is fully functional. This is an excellent example of a Napoleonic military pistol, and has a very significant date.
