Excellent Early WWII s/42 Code Mauser P.08 Luger Dated 1936
Offered here for sale and just acquired from a recent collection is this excellent early WWII Mauser P.08 luger which should appeal to German military collectors on all levels. This 1936 Mauser P.08 Luger with the s/42 code is indeed a highly desirable piece—especially in condition. The maker Code "s/42" denotes Mauser-Werke, which took over production of the Luger in the 1930s. The "s/42" code was used from 1934 to 1939, making this 1936 example an early Nazi-era production piece. This model would typically have early Weimar-era military proofs, and by 1936, Nazi eagle/63 inspection stamps were commonly appearing—especially on the right side of the slide and barrel. These early pre-war Lugers were manufactured with high precision and fine craftsmanship before wartime shortcuts started affecting quality in later years.
All parts on this specimen are matching (aside from the magazine). The serial number “342p” suggests it was the 342nd pistol made in the "p" suffix block (German Lugers were numbered 000–9999 with letter suffixes for production batches). Even though it's not matching (which is overwhelming often the case), it has the correct Eagle/63 inspector mark, which keeps it "correct" rather than a mismatch.
The pistol retains approximately 99%+ original blue: This is extraordinary especially for these early specimens. It also retains virtyually all straw color on appropriate parts ( seen on the trigger, safety lever, takedown lever) is often lost due to wear and cleaning. The bore is excellent as well. There is minimal spots of patina from holster wear-tiny specks of oxidation from leather contact are common and expected. The fact that they are only slight confirms this was likely a carried but lightly used pistol. The grips are excellent as well-original checkered walnut that are not worn smooth or cracked and just a bit of wax it appears that should not detract from overall appearance.

Excellent Early WWII s/42 Code Mauser P.08 Luger Dated 1936
Offered here for sale and just acquired from a recent collection is this excellent early WWII Mauser P.08 luger which should appeal to German military collectors on all levels. This 1936 Mauser P.08 Luger with the s/42 code is indeed a highly desirable piece—especially in condition. The maker Code "s/42" denotes Mauser-Werke, which took over production of the Luger in the 1930s. The "s/42" code was used from 1934 to 1939, making this 1936 example an early Nazi-era production piece. This model would typically have early Weimar-era military proofs, and by 1936, Nazi eagle/63 inspection stamps were commonly appearing—especially on the right side of the slide and barrel. These early pre-war Lugers were manufactured with high precision and fine craftsmanship before wartime shortcuts started affecting quality in later years.
All parts on this specimen are matching (aside from the magazine). The serial number “342p” suggests it was the 342nd pistol made in the "p" suffix block (German Lugers were numbered 000–9999 with letter suffixes for production batches). Even though it's not matching (which is overwhelming often the case), it has the correct Eagle/63 inspector mark, which keeps it "correct" rather than a mismatch.
The pistol retains approximately 99%+ original blue: This is extraordinary especially for these early specimens. It also retains virtyually all straw color on appropriate parts ( seen on the trigger, safety lever, takedown lever) is often lost due to wear and cleaning. The bore is excellent as well. There is minimal spots of patina from holster wear-tiny specks of oxidation from leather contact are common and expected. The fact that they are only slight confirms this was likely a carried but lightly used pistol. The grips are excellent as well-original checkered walnut that are not worn smooth or cracked and just a bit of wax it appears that should not detract from overall appearance.
Collectors seek these early 1936 Mauser Lugers because they represent the beginning of Nazi Germany's military rearmament. The quality of manufacture in 1936 was still very high, before the onset of full-scale war. This specimen should appeal to WWII and Third Reich collectors, advanced Luger enthusiasts looking for early Nazi-dated examples as well as investment-minded collectors seeking high quality examples with historical provenance.
