Description:
WWII phosphate finished pistols come through our “Bunker” on an extremely limited basis, so this is a rare P38 find, and they are highly coveted among collectors. Appropriately out of the “D” block of Mauser production in 1944 comes this rare diamond in the rough (phosphate) Mauser P-38. It has the typical "Grey Ghost” phosphate finish which is common for these guns. This is a high condition piece retaining 98% of its original finish. Comes with late war "Mauser" grips. The bore is mirror quality, and I would rate it a 9 out of 10. All numbered parts are matching including the locking block located under the barrel. All proofs are correctly in place. This rig comes with two magazines, one appropriately marked jvd on the left side and P38U on the right side. The other mag is a WWII period magazine marked P.38 and the spine of the mag bears the eagle 359 marking. The holster is an extremely rare pure work of “transitional art” which started as a pigskin luger holster that was altered late in the war by removing the luger mag pouch and replacing it with a P38 mag pouch. Then to complete the transition the take down tool pouch was removed then the “Frankenstein Holster” was issued with late issue P38’s such as this one. This is exactly how it came home as a war trophy. Therefore, this is a correct configuration, phosphate P-38 “Grey Ghost”. Rare indeed.
