Civil War I. Johnson Model 1842 Single Shot Percussion Military Pistol Dated 1855
Description: Gun retains a pleasing patina overall. Nice and untouched. Markings are clear. 1855 dated lock, 1846 dated GWH inspected barrel. Missing the swivel ramrod assembly. Brass has a pleasing dark uncleaned look to it. Wood is fine with some light dings and handling marks, no evidence of it ever having had a cartouche. There are no sub-inspectors marks on the brass either, possibly a Confederate assembled piece? These were used early on in the Civil War by both Union and Confederate cavalrymen. There is an old chip missing from the inside edge of the hammer nose (pictured) that has been gone for a long time. Lock works well. A nice honest Civil War period military issued horse pistol.
