French Flintlock Year IX Gendarmerie Model Pistol
Description: NSN, .58 Caliber, 5" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is an 1811 dated pistol with “Maubeuge / Manuf. Imp." marked lockplate, still configured in the original flint. The barrel is marked “B / 1811" on the left breech flat, and “M. an 9" on the tang. The metal has a dark, plum-brown patina with traces of an old, added black finish, mostly at the breech, and on the protected areas at the nosecap. The iron trigger guard and butt cap have a general plum-brown patina, less so on the nosecap and sideplate which also exhibit some bright gray metal, and on the lock which has a mostly dark pewter gray appearance. The walnut stock is in fine shape with only minor handling marks and bruises, as well as a small crack in the wood immediately behind the rear point of the lockplate, and a few small chips along the edge of the butt cap. Deeply struck issue markings are present on the left side of the stock just behind the sideplate, along with a crisp “I" on the back of the grip. The pistol comes with its original iron ramrod, and the action is tight and functions flawlessly. While they are known as “Gendarmerie" pistols, they were also carried by Infantry officers, and this example rates fine-near excellent condition overall.
