Captured Bring Back WWI Mauser C96 Broomhandle 7.63 Pistol W/ Stock Holster Medals & History
Description: This is an incredibly rare find. The pistol is a standard commercial production, made circa 1914, C96 Broomhandle in 7.63 Mauser. It retains 20% original finish, the rest having a dull gun metal grey color. Some light pitting in areas. All markings are clear. FIne mechanical function. All numbers are matching. Bore has strong rifling. 5 1/2 inch barrel. No import marks. Original matching wood grips show some wear, the top of the left grip has A T Co stamped into it, the bottom of the right grip has stamped into it CO H 125 over USA. Accompanying this gun is a well made holster that has the soldiers dog tags and medals who brought the gun home (which matches the markings on the grips). His WWI service medal has 4 bars on it which read AISNE-MARNE, OISE-AISNE, MEUSE-ARGONNE, & DEFENSIVE SECTOR. The round aluminum dog tags read ALEX TYSZKIEWICZ U.S.A. Co. H. 125 MECH INF 32. Also has 2 small religious medals that appear to be in Polish, one of which is dated 1906. The accompanying stock is home made with an original attaching iron, not matching to the gun, but fits well and was with it when we purchased the group. Doing some reseach on Fold3, we were able to find the original draft registration card, which states that Alex Tyczkiewicz was born in Russia on November 11, 1895 and was living in Wayne, Michigan. We also found his "Old Man Draft Card" in which he was too old for service in WWII but still had to register. Further research regarding the 125th Infantry Regiment shows that it was part of the Michigan National Guard and was assigned to the 32nd Infantry Division. The 32nd was known as the Iron Jaw Division, also through combat in France, the French referred to it as "Les Terribles, referring to its fortitude in advancing over terrain others could not. It was the first allied division to pierce the German Hindenburg Line of defense". They arrived on the Western Front in February of 1918. "Over the next six months, the division was under constant fire, with only 10 days' rest. The division took a leading role in three important offensives, fighting on five fronts, suffered more than 14,000 casualties, captured more than 2,000 prisoners, and never yielded ground to the enemy". Given that we were able to find the "Old Man Draft Card", it is clear that Alex Tsyzkiewicz made it back to the US after WWI and returned to his home in Michigan. While there are many Mauser Broomhandle pistols out there, this one has a super history in being associated with a hard fighting WWI regiment and still remains in extremely presentable condition. "If only it could talk"...well, this one kind of can a little. Serial number is 226639 FFL or C&R license required Buyer pays $85 shipping CONUS, including full insurance and tracking.
