French Model 1833 1st Type Officer's Pistol by Chatellerault
Description: NSN, .67 Caliber, 7 7/8" swamped, octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a very handsome pistol that has a hammer-forged, twist steel barrel that has a mottled gray-brown patina with the simple twist pattern still clear and visible. The tapered-oval lockplate is marked "Mre. Rle. De / Chatellerault" and has a mellow plum-brown and gray patina that carries over onto the hammer. The wedge-fastened walnut stock has mottled plum-brown patina with darker brown on the spurred trigger guard. The wood has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout. There is a single short hairline crack at the rear of the lockplate, and some flattened areas of checkering on the grip, but these are all minor and the stock rates very good-fine condition overall. The original lanyard swivel is still present at the butt, the lock is tight and fully functional, and the original brass-tipped ramrod is also included. This is a fine-near excellent example of one of the first French percussion arms, and would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
