Large and impressive long slide/grip Spanish "Royal" semi-automatic pistol with external hammer in 7.65mm caliber with 12-shot magazine, manufactured in Eibar during the early 20th century, likely for export to China.
Description:
Rare external hammer variation of the Spanish "Royal" long slide/grip 12-shot pistol, cal. 7.65mm, having 5 3/8” barrel, half moon front sight, and drift adjustable notch rear sight. Single action blowback with external hammer. Left side of the slide marked “AUTOMATIC PISTOL CAL 7.65” followed by “ROYAL” both over full serial number 53700 which is repeated on the left side of frame. Left side of frame also marked with Eibar proof marks. Matching assembly number 330 on slide, barrel and frame. Fitted with hard rubber grips marked “ROYAL” above two stallions. Lanyard ring present. Correct magazine having 11 indicator holes. Commonly categorized with the Spanish "Ruby" type pistols, these were primarily made for export to China, this example extremely unusual having been made with an external hammer.
Condition:
Good with 60% blue, the balance having transitioned to a patina, particularly as concerning the grips straps. Noticeable ding on left tang. Comparable condition grips. Slightly dull bore with easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics, though sluggish, likely due to congealed grease. A very impressive, large Spanish pistol, extremely unusual in having an external hammer.
