Rare British Issued L66A1 Walther Model PP in 22 LR Northern Ireland
Description: Serial #42577LR, .22 LR, 3 ¾ inch barrel with a bright, excellent bore. This is a very interesting and rare British issued Walther Model PP semi-automatic DA/SA pistol purchased by the British Royal Army Ordnance Cops in 1974 and issued to service member of the Ulster Defense Regiment in Northern Ireland as self-defense weapons and is believed to be the only .22 caliber pistol ever issued by any military as a personal defense weapon. Designated as the British model L66A1 some 3,000 were purchased with approximately 1500 imported into the US by Interarms after they were sold off as Military Surplus in 1989 when replaced with other models such as the Walther P5 and SIG P230 as personal defense weapons. The British coated many of them with Suncorite and refitted with strengthened firing pins. The slide is typically marked if the firing pin was replaced, this particular example is not marked & likely did not receive a reinforced firing pin. It does have the issue lanyard loop and has the "IAC" import mark on the slide along with West German military proof marks. It remains in excellent condition with much of the Suncrolite coating showing some silvering at the muzzle and wear areas. The hard plastic Walther banner grips rate about excellent with light use marks. It comes with one original 10 round finger rest steel magazine. A rarely seen British military personal defense weapon used in Northern Ireland. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
