WW2 Chinese Contract Canadian Inglis Mk.1* FN High Power 9mm Pistol w/ Original Shoulder Stock/Holster
* Handsome & Scarce All-Original Example! *
Description: This is a very cool and scarce Chinese Contract Inglis Mk.1* High Power pistol in 9mm Luger made by the Canadian Inglis firm, complete with an original "S.A. LTD. 1945" wooden shoulder stock/holster. This gun and shoulder stock are 100% original and have not been altered or modified in any way since leaving the factory. Ths story of the Chinese Contract High Power started prior to WW2, when the Chinese Nationalist Army received a number of High Power pistols from the FN firm in Belgium. With the outbreak of World War 2, the Chinese Nationalists aligned themselves with the Allies and went to war, primarily against the Imperial Japanese. The Allies helped the Chinese with weapons and equipment whenever possible. By 1943 the Chinese sought to buy 180,000 High Power pistols thru the Mutual Aid Plan with Canada. This was only possible because one of FN's chief designers had escaped from German-occupied Belgium to London and had went to work reconstructing a set of drawings for the High Power pistol for the Allies from only his memory and by examining some sample pre-war High Power pistols. Inglis was able to secure the contract for the Chinese High Powers and was able to start production by 1944, using the letters "CH" within the serial number to identify a gun made for the Chinese contract. 18,500 pistols were made before the contract was cancelled in September of 1944 in order to better supply the Canadian Military. Once it was apparent that World War 2 was coming to an end, the Chinese were given another contract for 40,000 High Powers. This contract ended up being cancelled prematurely as well in October of 1945 when it became obvious that Mao's Communist Forces were going to defeat the Chinese Nationalists. All in all, a total of just over 66,300 Chinese Contract High Powers were made for the Chinese Nationalists. This particular example was made in September of 1945 as part of the second contract to the Chinese. It is an all-original and all-matching gun that has not been reworked or import marked. This Chinese Contract Mk.1* High Power appears to have gone overseas to China as it is marked with Chinese characters on the slide to the right of the Mk.1* model designation. The factory green/gray parkerized finish is in good shape overall for an issued weapon, showing only light to medium finish wear mainly on the front and rear grip straps and the high-edges of the pistol. All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and all of the Canadian and Chinese Military proofs are still intact and visible. The serial numbers on these pistols were applied after the factory finish was applied, and as a result should have bare metal showing in the numbers if the finish is original. As you can see from the pictures, this High Power has matching serial numbers on all three major parts (barrel, slide, & frame) and the numbers show bare metal in them. The bore in this Inglis is in excellent condition. The rifling is strong and sharp from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle, and there is no visible pitting or erosion in the barrel. The exterior of the barrel which was left "in the white" from the factory is also in very good condition with only a touch of staining showing on the exterior near the muzzle. The original checkered black composite grips on this gun are in good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. Both grips show wear consistent with the rest of the pistol and fit the gun perfectly with no wiggle. The original lanyard ring is still in place on this High Power, and the adjustable tangent rear sight is adjustable from 50 to 500 meters. This Chinese Contract Mk.1* High Power has a slick and smooth action and all of the controls are in perfect working order. There is no doubt that it will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 76 years ago. It comes complete with one original period-correct Inglis High Power magazine marked "JI" and a spectacular all-original Walnut shoulder stock/holster. The stock with this Chinese Contract High Power is marked with the maker mark and manufacture date of "S.A. LTD 1945" on the left side of the stock and "Made in Canada" on the right side below the hinge plate. This stock is in superb condition inside and out, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage outside of a few minor handling marks in the wood. All of the original factory hardware is intact and in excellent condition, including both latches, the hinge, and the spring tensioner inside the lid. The routing work on the interior is beautiful, and the factory-installed light-colored wood inserts in the walls of the stock to strengthen them are perfectly inlaid into the Walnut. The stock comes with an originalbelt hanger installed on the stock which is also well-marked in ink. This stock fits this Chinese Contract Inglis perfectly, whether it is attached to the backstrap in use as a shoulder stock or in use as a holster with the gun inside of it. This is really one very cool pistol rig from WW2 that you will rarely come across in any condition, much less as beautiful and nice as this one. If you have been looking to add a truly special pistol to your WW2 weapons collection this all-original Chinese Contract Inglis Mk.1* High Power pistol and original shoulder stock would be a superb choice.
