Rare 1924 Colt M1911A1 Transition
Description: 1924 Colt M1911A1 Transition S/N 706584. 1924 (1st year) Colt M1911A1 pistol. Original Colt brushed blue finish and all correct parts. The barrel properly displays the common leg HP marking on the top of the chamber and the K on the bottom of the barrel, forward of the lugs. This pistol shipped 25 July 1924 to Springfield Armory in a shipment of only 2850 pistols. There were only 10,000 total 1st year Colt M1911A1 pistols. This is the 6584th pistol numbered in that 1924 contract. There were only about 35,000 total Colt M1911A1 pistols with a blued finish produced in 1924, 1937-1941. Brushed blue Colt M1911A1 pistols are, therefore, exceptionally rare and difficult to acquire in any condition. This pistol's original finish rates about 88-90% overall. There is some slight thinning to the finish overall. The pistol shows some typically slight browning to the blue finish on the slide where it contacted the holster. There are also some small areas where finish is flaked off due to aging and corrosion. The pistol shows normal wear, use and handling. The WTG final inspection is the circled variation used on pistols after about serial number 702000. Stocks are original Colt M1911A1 with 28-rows of checkering between the screw holes. Finish and appearance overall is excellent on this pistol. The magazine is a proper WW1 contract magazine manufactured by Barnes Kobert. These pistols were not shipped with magazines from the factory. M1911 two-tone magazines were used. All internal and external small parts appear to be original to the pistol. You will notice the matching serif-style H marks on the receiver and slide, which is correct only for 1924 Transition pistols. You will also notice the disconnector notch in the slide is correct for the 1924 pistol. This is how you are able to determine that the slide is correct, an not a slide from an earlier M1911 pistol. All correct 1st year Colt M1911A1 Transition pistols are extremely rare and difficult to acquire. This example is a nice addition to any collection. It displays the circled WTG final inspection, which is clearly struck through the original Colt brushed blue finish. Please contact me with any questions or to purchase this pistol.
