Description: For consideration is an honest Ithaca M1911-A1 pistol in .45 ACP caliber. Designed by John Browning, the M1911 is the best-known of his designs to use the short recoil principle in its basic design. The pistol was widely copied, and this operating system rose to become the preeminent type of the 20th century and of nearly all modern centerfire pistols. It is popular with civilian shooters in competitive events such as the International Defensive Pistol Association and International Practical Shooting Confederation. The .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol), also known as .45 Auto, .45 Automatic is a rimless straight-walled handgun cartridge designed by John Moses Browning in 1904, for use in his prototype Colt semi-automatic pistol. After successful military trials, it was adopted as the standard chambering for Colt's M1911 pistol. Ithaca was one of the more minor manufacturers to supply M1911-A1 pistols to the US Military. This pistol has honest wear which is mostly finish related. Mechanically the pistol is still tight with very good slide to frame fit. The grips are in very good condition with minor pressure marks on the left side. Proof and acceptance marks remain but United States Property and US Army marks have been removed. Though not perfect this fine Ithaca M1911-A1 would make a great historical addition to a collection of US militaria.
