Description:
Standard configuration Colt Model 1911 pistol manufactured in 1913 in .45 ACP, serial number 21748, blued finish with 5" barrel, fixed front and rounded, drift adjustable rear sight. Left side of slide marked "PATENTED APR 20. 1897.", "SEPT. 9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905. FEB. 14. 1911.", manufacturer identification "COLTS PT.F.A.MFG.CO.", "HARTFORD CT. Limited disassembly shows an "H" inspected slide and frame (by disconnector). Barrel has small "P" on top. No "H" visible. The M1911 pistol originated in the late 1890s as the result of a search for a suitable self-loading pistol to replace the variety of revolvers in service, with field tests conducted from 1907 to 1911 to decide between the Savage and Colt designs before official adoption.
Condition:
VG as partially restored, the slide having been touched up with cold blue and aged to better match the original finish frame, the front strap and mainspring housing having thinned to a uniform gray, the mainspring housing having been nicely cleaned. Slide release a slightly darker blue. Original finish on the other small parts to include hammer, thumb safety, trigger, and magazine button retainer. Barrel bushing with reapplied peacock fire blue. Reblued magazine with finish partially stripped to resemble a dual tone magazine. Original oil darkened grips with blunted diamonds, the right panel more worn and with a small chip bottom right corner. Dull bore with easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics.
