Offered for sale this week is a scarce variation of the WW2 Colt M1911A1. This pistol was made in 1945 when Colts was transitioning to a different form of finish called Parko-Lubrite. This finish apparently changed the needs for certain parts to be finished without being sandblasted. This pistol has a smooth slide and a sandblasted frame. Soon thereafter the contract guns would have the smooth slides and frames. This is documented in Charles Clawson's book as seen in the picture. Also take note of the block style serial number. This style of numbering was also only used during the very last part of production in mid 1945 thru the end of production in Sept of 1945/. The pistol is original finish and has all correct parts to include the late C and P marked barrel. The mag is a full blue contract Colt marke don the toe.
A neat gun for the variation collector. Not a pistol I would call "rare" but the certainly do not show up often.
