Hi-Standard HD Military .22 US Marked
Description: U.S. Pistol, Cal..22 Long Rifle: Hi Standard “HD Military USA” Made 1944, Serial No. 134179. WW II US Government purchase and so marked. Mint Condition. 4 ½ inch “bull” barrel. Parkerized. Made: New Haven, Conn. Relatively few of these pistols (variously reported as either 34,000 or 44,000) were purchased by the U.S. military in WW II, and even fewer were released for sale by the military post-WW II. It is important to note that the pistol is marked “Hi-Standard + USA Model HD.” The “USA” specifically indicates that it was made for/procured by the US Military. (Put another way, the “HD Military” marking of itself does NOT indicate US Government procurement: many blued “HD Military” pistols were sold on the civilian market. Only pistols marked with the additional “USA” were government purchased.) Further, only the guns purchased by the US Government were Parkerized. Since the “HD Military” fits the hand much like the M1911 and M1911A1 pistols, these were purchased as introductory training pistols, firing the cheaper .22 Cal ammunition. As a side note, a number of Cal. .22 LR Hi Standard .22 HD Military pistols were procured for use by the WW II era OSS, which adapted them for use with “silencers” for clandestine operations. Such use continued well after WW II by CIA, successor to the OSS, and by US military Special Operations personnel. The pistol is clearly un-issued: NO scratches anywhere on the metal; plastic grips in perfect condition. Action is very tight, no “buggered” screws. Bolt face shows no signs of having been fired. Perfect bore. Comes with one original 10 round magazine, plus one commercial/aftermarket magazine. Parkerized finish has turned a deep, uniform dark brown. Pistol has all the proper US military Property and Ordnance marks: R/S of Frame: “Property of US” + “Ordnance wheel.” Top of barrel: “Property of USA.” L/S of Slide: “Hi-Standard / USA MODEL HD.” L/S of frame: Hi Standard, New Haven, .22 LR, etc. Front Strap of grip: 134179 (serial number.) An important (and very difficult to find in this condition) piece for the advanced US military pistol/weapons Collector. Cashiers check only. C&R okay, or shipped to your FFL dealer. Insured USPS Shipping is $25. Three day inspection period, buyer pays return shipping/insurance cost.
