Rare Pre-WWI Colt M1911 - 1913 Navy -
Description:
This is a nice example of a rare Colt M1911, manufactured in 1913 for the US Navy. The brushed blue finish is original and rates at about 80%, with the front strap showing the largest area of finish loss, but a fairly large area of patina and surface freckling along the top of the slide and right side of the pistol. Disconnected 'P H' barrel with excellent bore. There is also some pitting under the grip on the right side frame, so it's likely this gun was exposed to a little water, which would be logical for a Navy issued pistol. This gun was delivered to the Brooklyn Navy Yard on August 16th of 2013. It comes with an earlier Navy marked slide with Colt pony in circle. Per Scott Meadow's book on "US Military Automatic Pistols 1894 to 1920", a small number of 1913 Navy pistols in S/N range 42,500-44,000 had been observed with these earlier slides. This pistol obviously falls in the beginning of the range. Sharp grips with no major issue. Two-tone magazine with lanyard loop.
