Description:
Springfield Model 1911 U.S. Army pistol manufactured in 1914, placing it before the World War I production period when these pistols first proved themselves in combat with American forces. Standard features include blade front sight and drift adjustable rear sight. The left side bears the correct three-line Springfield address marking with patent dates (April 20, 1897, September 9, 1902, December 19, 1905, and February 14, 1911) along with “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO.”, “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A.” , and flaming bomb. Left frame with U.S. property markings and flaming bomb. The right side of the slide displays The Great Seal of the United States and the military markings “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY” with the serial number on the right frame. Post WWI Springfield field replacement barrel with small P and S on left side of lug. Dark walnut grips secured with two screws in the double diamond checkering pattern. Magazine with folded bottom, floorplate with lanyard ring. Other features include long smooth trigger, checkered hammer, and short grip safety. Limited disassembly shows a "S" marked barrel bushing, slide release lever, and barrel lug link.
Condition:
VG as partially reworked, the slide having being period/partially refinished, details now missing from the lower portion of the great seal. Excellent original finish barrel, a later post-war Springfield field replacement as previously noted. VG grips, oil darkened, with scattered handling marks. Magazine was likely refurbished at the same time as the slide, now with a uniform rust blue coating. Mirror bright bore. Correct manual mechanics. An attractive, partially refurbished, but otherwise correct Springfield Armory 1911 military pistol that was made in 1914.
