ALLEN & THURBER BAR HAMMER PISTOL
36 Cal; fair bore, good grips, 4'' barrel, Made circa 1830s up to the Civil War period. Half round, half octagon barrel, marked on one flat "ALLEN & THURBER" and on the left side of the hammer "ALLENS PATENT". Scroll engraved frame. Fitted with plain walnut grips without inlays for the screw. Originally blued, the metal has turned a gray patina overall with some light spotting. The grips show age and light handling marks with some minor shrinkage. The barrel flats have several marks from a tool used to remove the barrel. The action is working however the mainspring is weak.
