Nambu Type 14 Pistol

Presenting a World War II Japanese Nambu Type 14 Pistol in excellent shape. Acquired by me in Japan in 1968 it is an original sidearm used by Japanese officers in World War II

The Nambu takes its name from Captain Kijiro Nambu who having been transferred to the Tokyo Arsenal around 1902 designed several sidearms for Japanese officeers. The Type 14 was designed around 1925 and became the most widely used Japanese sidearm in World War II.

The Nambu Type 14 bears a superficial resemblance to the Luger, though the mechanism is completelydifferent. It holds and fires eight rounds of the standard 8mm Nambu cartridge.

This example was made in the Nagoya Arsenal Toriimatsu Second series. The manufacture date is maked as 19.3 which indicates the third month of the 19th year of the Showa emperor's (Hirohito) reign, thus it was manufatured in March of 1944.

The overall condition is very good. Original blueing is hardly worn, the action works great and the pistol seems to have seen very little use. Shiny bore with excellent rifling. The numbers match for all parts. The firing pin has been filed off because Japan does not allow ownership of working handguns.
