The Norinco Model 54-1 is a Chinese-manufactured commercial variant of the military Type 54 handgun, which itself is a direct copy of the rugged Soviet TT-33 Tokarev pistol. Produced by China North Industries Corporation (Norinco), the "54-1" was specifically configured for export to civilian markets, notably the United States, during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Short-recoil operated, locked-breech semi-automatic utilizing a John Browning-style swinging tilt-link system.
