WW2 1944 Walther AC 44 P-38 9mm Pistol w/ Original Holster & Extra Magazine
** Nice All-Original & Matching G.I. Bring-Back Rig **
Description: If you have been looking for a really nice combat-used and G.I.-captured P-38 rig, here it is. This is an all-original and all-matching Walther AC 44 P-38 9mm pistol complete with an original 1944 dated German military-issue P-38 holster and correct extra magazine. The P-38 pistol was Nazi Germany's replacement for the P-08 Luger, it was faster and cheaper to produce, as well as capable of double-action firing on the first round. The P-38 design proved to be excellent, both reliable in combat and easy to strip down and maintain. During WW2 there were three firms that produced the P-38, Mauser and Walther in Germany, and Spreewerke in occupied Czechoslovakia. The P-38 was produced for the German military right up to the end of the war. This particular Walther P-38 was made during the late stages of the war in 1944. At that time Walther-made weapons were coded "AC" with a two digit date ("44" in this case)in an attempt to hide from the Allies where they were being made. The original finish on this pistol is in excellent condition overall and is typical of late war production, with visible machining marks on the slide, barrel, and frame with very little polishing done prior to the blue finish being applied. The finish shows some minor high edge and holster/handling wear but nothing major. As you can see in the pictures, the worst spot of finish wear is at the muzzle on the left side of the barrel, and even that is very minor for a combat-used weapon. The exposed front grip strap shows a strong original finish, often the place you will see lots of wear on other examples. The bore in this Walther is really superb. The rifling still shows nice sharp lands and grooves and there is no pitting, erosion, or visible imperfections of any kind. The original dark brown Bakelite grips are in excellent condition. Both grip panels are 100% solid with no cracks, chips, or repairs and are tight to the frame with no wiggle. All of the controls on this P-38 are in perfect working order. The slide works smoothly by hand on the frame but is still nice and tight with no slop in the fit. The slide goes into battery perfectly, and the safety lever/decocker functions as it was designed to. We have no doubt that this AC 44 P-38 would shoot just as reliably today as it did when it left the factory in 1944. As mentioned before this Walther comes with two correct and original magazines, both stamped on the spine with the "Eagle 359" Waffenamt which is correct for Walther production. The original holster is maker marked "dkk 44" on the back along with the standard large "P38" stamp. The holster is in average condition as the leather has been allowed to dry out at some point during the last few decades which caused the outer layer to crack. The holster has since been conditioned and is now flexible and soft. The stitching is in excellent shape, and is all-original and 100% intact. The inner side of the top flap has the German soldier's name or the G.I.'s name that captured it written on it but it is only partially legible. Perhaps the new owner can decipher what it says. All in all, this is an excellent example of a World War 2 production Walther P-38 rig and would be an excellent addition to any WW2 or military weapons collection.
