Super scarce postwar Walther P38 as issued to the Portuguese GNR "Guarda Nacional Republicana" police, this an early version with the GNR monogram in a bright blued field. Complete with an original but mismatched Walther box.
Description:
Postwar Walther P38 with alloy frame, cal. 9mmP, early Portuguese Police, GNR monogram on right side of slide, in Walther shipping box numbered to a different pistol. The pistol is a standard post-war P38 with 5-inch barrel, drift-adjustable front sight, and a fixed U-notch rear sight. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther banner followed by a two-line address referencing the Walther company, the model, and the caliber. Safety markings are highlighted with a white 'S' and red 'F'. The right side of the slide is marked with the intertwined GNR initials followed by the importer's markings. Full serial number on the left side of the frame with usual Eagle/N proofs on the left side of slide, barrel lug and left side of the trigger guard web. Checkered, black plastic grips with lanyard ring on left side. Commercial magazine with seven indicator holes, Walther banner surmounting P.38 9mm on left side, and detachable floorplate. Complete with Walther Banner, faux woodgrain two-piece box with importer's label on lid, numbered to a different pistol. No end label or accessories.
Condition:
VG+ original condition postwar P38 with barrel, slide and frame wear consistent with a moderately carried/holstered police pistol, most frame wear involving the front strap and area under the tang. Grips with diamond flattening and handling marks on both panels as carefully pictured. Near EXC magazine with insertional wear. Near mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. VG mismatched box with shelf wear/scuffing, importer's label affixed to lid as mentioned and photographed.
