Description:
Wonderful, early production Spreewerk P38 German military pistol with 5" barrel having drift adjustable front sight and fixed rear sight. The left side of slide marked "P.38 cyq" followed by the serial number: 1842. Safety detents marked with a white painted 'S' and red painted 'F'. Full serial number is repeated on the left side of the frame, on the forward barrel lug, and on the locking lug. Scattered Eagle/88 proofs in the usual locations. Fitted with dark chocolate brown composition grips. Magazine with seven indicator holes and detachable floorplate accepted with an Eagle/88 at the bottom of the spine.
Condition:
Excellent original finish, early production Spreewerk pistol with sharp edge wear in the expected locations, a bit more at the muzzle from having been holstered, surprisingly little thinning of the front strap, comparable condition grips, and original magazine with fine surface speckling as photographed. Near mirror bore with negligible erosion. Correct manual mechanics. It would be very, very difficult to improve upon this early production Spreewerk P38 from World War II, a impressive pistol that should please the most discriminating collector.
