W. G. Chance (London, England),  ANTIQUE,   pair of percussion pistols,   .69 caliber smoothbore,  two proof marks, correctly one over the other, of crossed sceptres & crowns indicate that these pistols were produced in London between 1740 and 1810,   guns so marked and signed by the maker and having "London" on their barrels were produced for the private market,   both of these guns are marked "London" on their barrels and have the name "Chance" engraved on their lockplates,   most likely issued in the white,   barrels exhibit evidence of carrying and use,   stocks exhibit much of original finish and normal handling and storage marks,   stock on one of the pistols is missing its wedge estucheon and shows evidence of a repaired crack behind the wedge area on one side only,   THESE GUNS WERE NOT SHOW GUNS.   THEY SHOW EVIDENCE OF BEING CARRIED AND USED.  IN NO WAY ARE THEY PRISTINE BUT THE COCKING MECHANISMS ARE STRONG AND POSITIVE,   THESE OVER 200 YEAR OLD LATE 18TH CENTURY/EARLY 19TH CENTURY PISTOLS ARE THE KIND YOU WISH COULD TALK,   period case survives in rough condition and contains a powder flask,   Retail value for the pair $3500.00,   Sale price for the pair $2995.00
