The No. 1 Remington single shot vest pocket pistol was made from circa 1865 to 1888. Note that the hammer also functions as the breechblock. The 3.25"" round 22 Short barrel with octagon breech is integral to the frame. The bore is very good with some erosion of the rifling. Originally nickeled with traces remaining and areas turning a smooth brown. The top of the frame is marked REMINGTON'S. ILION. N.Y. over PATD. OCT.1.1861. The serial number, 6889, is under the barrel. The walnut grips are good with the left having a small stress crack from the screw forward. The action functions correctly. These interesting saw handle vest pocket deringers should be in any Remington or deringer collection.
