Seller's Inventory #: A-499
Remington Model 1871 Army Rolling Block Pistol - Cal. .50 CF - 8" Bbl. - SN 3042 (1872 approx). Bore is near perfect - bright with sharp, crisp rifling and only a couple small spots of very light roughness - action is perfect. Metal overall is close to excellent - no pits or corrosion - shows some shallow "pinpricks" on part of the barrel and tiny and minor rust spots on backstrap and end of lower tang. Barrel retains about 85% to 90% thinning blue - frame and backstrap have drifted to a gray patina with 20% faded case color. Remington marks and inspector markings are sharp and clear. Wood is excellent overall with 95% finish and clear cartouche - very slight and fine surface check at lower end of backstrap. Only about 6000 of this model were made from 1872-1888 and many were later altered with different calibers, barrels, and sights so not many of the originals remain, especially in working order. A very crisp and all original near excellet example of a fairly scarce 1871 Martial Rolling Block that has not been altered and will make a fine collectible.
