Ruger P85 – 9mm – 4.5" Barrel - 15+1 – Safety/Decocker – 1990 Model
The Ruger P85 is an incredibly tough and durable pistol. This pistol was Ruger’s entry into the military trials in 1998. Although Ruger didn’t end up with the military pistol contract, the model did perform well and even passed the very tough 20,000 round life expectancy test.
Our pistol (serial number 301-67122) was manufactured in 1990 as Ruger SKU 3001. The factory modification to the safety has been completed as is evidenced by the MkIIR stamp on the safety/decocker lever.
The P85 has a 4.5 inch barrel and is fed by a 15 round metal magazine. Standard 3 dot sights sit atop the slide. This rugged pistol has an aluminum frame and a steel slide. It functions in both single and double action modes. The black grips are a polymer material.
With this pistol you’ll find an ambi magazine release, an oversized slide release and an oversized trigger. The safety/decocker lever is also an ambi design and sits at the rear of the slide.
Single action trigger pull is very nice. It has some takeup to a definite wall and then an easy break. The double action trigger pull is a typical double actin feel. The bore on the pistol is in good shape but could do with a cleaning. The barrel is very bright and the rifling looks strong. The grips are in Very Good condition. The frame is in Good condition. There is some finish loss at the slide release and some scuffing at the back of the beaver tail. The slide is Fair – Good. Our only complaint is cosmetic. There is some wear and a scratch on the left side. The right side has an area of scratching underneath the ejection port.
The P85 is a great choice as a truck gun, one for the bug out bag or to carry as a backup on a hunting trip. It’s rugged, it’s durable and it has a lot of life left before reaching that 20,000 round mark. As this price, it’s a quality choice!
