"Rare Occupation-Assembled Sauer 38H Pistol (PR57120)
Description: "This rare Sauer 38H was assembled during the early Allied occupation of Germany prior to the Russians taking over the Sauer factory. These are often called ""cigarette guns"" as the factory woirkers assembled them out of spare and rejected parts to trade to GIs for cigarettes and other items. They do not have Waffenamts or other inspection markings and have a variety of serial number markings and features. Cate & Van Gijn in ""J.P. Sauer & Sohn, A Historical Study of Sauer Automatic Pistols"" classify these as the Type 5a, of which fewer than 20 are known. This gun is numbered 191B in fairly large numbers on the right side of the slide. The only other marking is the S&S logo on the left grip. It also has the distinctive double rectangular notches on the left side of the trigger guard that are found on most Type 5a guns. There is no slide legend and the slide is without the safety. The 32ACP caliber barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The gun retains approx. 98% blue finish. The unmarked blued magazine is excellent. The hard rubber grips are excellent with no chips or cracks. The action, including the cocking lever, functions correctly. This gun would be the centerpiece of any advanced Sauer 38H collection.
