JP Sauer & Sohn Montana Marshal .357 magnum caliber single action revolver with extra cylinder in 9mm
Description: SOLD ******* Pending receipt of funds*********JP Sauer & Sohn Montana Marshal .357 magnum caliber single action revolver with extra cylinder in 9mm (advertised as a "Big Bore Combination - optional cylinders provide exceptional versatility"). 6 inch barrel, 6 shot, fixed front sight blade with rear trench sight, made in Eckernforde, West Germany between 1968 and 1980. Due to a lack of records, it is not possible to determine the actual year of manufacture. Imported into the US by Hawes Firearms Company of Los Angeles, CA. The Hawes catalogue model number for this combination gun was 6357C. SN = 16333/3, serial number on barrel and frame match. This gun is a clone of the 1863 Colt Model Single Action Army (SAA), firing pin is in frame - not on the hammer, highly polished rosewood grips, rear face of the .357 cylinder is countersunk (recessed), the rear face of the 9mm cylinder is not countersunk, great gun for cowboy action shooting, there is no transfer bar safety, therefore, the gun should be carried with an empty cylinder under the hammer. Fully blued frame, trigger guard, backstrap, both cylinders and barrel. J. P. Sauer & Sohn was founded in Suhl, Germany in 1751 by Lorenz Sauer, a manufacturer of firearms and machinery, and is currently the oldest firearms manufacturer still active in Germany. In 1960, Haywood "Hy" Hunter began importing and distributing the SAA clones under the marketing name of "Western Six Shooters". In 1964, Hy Hunter stopped importing these guns. In 1967, Hawes Firearms out of Los Angeles, California started importing the J.P. Sauer and Sohn single action revolvers. The frames were slightly larger so that the .44 Magnum chambering could be offered in most models. Their "Western Marshal Series" included the Western Marshal, Chief Marshal (target model with adjustable rear sight), Virginia City Marshal (partial nickel trim), Texas Marshal (full nickel finish), and the Montana Marshal; the only differences being the finish, grip material, and backstrap construction. Barrel length for all the centerfire models was 6 inches. They also offered several combination models, with dual cylinders for the .357Magnum/9mm., .45LC/.45ACP, and the .44Magnum/.44-40 guns. In 1980, Hawes Firearms went out of business. In 1976, the Swiss Industrial Company – Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft, known worldwide as SIG, formed a partnership with J. P. Sauer & Sohn. In 2007, the company changed its name to Sig Sauer. Overall condition of the finish and the grips is excellent. Minor finish wear on the left side of the barrel at the muzzle and front edge of the cylinder from a holster. There is minor discoloration of the blueing on the barrel at the muzzle end. Typical drag line on the cylinder. The extra 9mm cylinder appears to be unfired. Three western style holsters with matching gun belts that fit this gun and 26 rounds of chrome plated Remington .38 special ammunition for display in the gun belt ammo loops are available from this seller, but are not included in the price of the gun. They are available for purchase for an additional cost (see photos). Shipping to your FFL only. Inspection must be done on the premises of the receiving FFL only.
